PRAYER AT SOUTH LEITH PARISH CHURCH

Prayer - the cornerstone of the Christian way of life, connecting us together - can take many forms : can be done in many ways.

PERSONAL PRAYER

Prayer is personal: a 'conversation of the soul with God'

Prayer brings us into the presence of God; it
Reaches into our innermost thoughts and feelings; through it we may
Ask for God's forgiveness and help; and we
Yield to God's will. Prayer
Enables us: to face life in all its complexities; it helps us to
Resolve our problems; and strengthens our future

Prayer can help us to centre ourselves when we are stressed; prayer can give
us comfort; it can provide us with the strength to face problems.

In our personal conversation with God, we can thank him for blessings,
happiness, and good fortune

Prayer is an aid to help us discover who we really are; it connects our
experience of life with the life of Christ; it helps us respond to God's
unconditional love; and through it we find Him in all things. Prayer gives
us an inner compass to equip us for the road ahead.

COMMUNAL PRAYER

Here at South Leith, the opportunities and resources for prayer include:

-- The Thursday Worship at One o'clock service : prayers are said
specifically for the community; and requests are sought.

-- The library in the corner of the Church : this has literature and books
which can be resourced or borrowed. Ideas for further reading matter would
be welcome.

-- The Prayer Chain : this is run by circulating e-mails, telephone calls
and word of mouth and its members pray for anyone, community matters,
national and international situations instigated by requests which can be
made by anyone, within or outwith our congregation.

-- A dedicated prayer area. This, situated on the pulpit side of the church, is where requests may be left anonymously for prayer. Contained on the shelves are some specific prayer resources, visual and written, e.g. suggested prayers which are relevant in any situation and are very helpful when it is difficult to find the words. The area can be used as a place for quiet meditation We are unique and known to God who understands our prayers even before we make them.

If you have a request or would like to be part of our prayer chain please
speak to Marlene Loeb at church.

If you would like further information or help, please contact the minister,
