South Leith Parish Church Home Group

What is the Home Group?

South Leith Parish Church has run a House Group (now known as the Home Group ) for over twenty years with many people enjoying the experience and benefiting from it. The group is open to anyone to attend any of the meetings. No previous experience is required – just a sincere desire to learn more about what God teaches us through the Bible and its relevance to us in our lives.

The title is designed to be all encompassing so that we are not too restrained in what we do. Mainly we study and learn from the Bible, following a study book. However we usually have a Christmas party and a summer walk or barbecue. At the end of chapter 2 of the book of Acts, after the first Pentecost, we read that all believers met constantly to hear the apostles teach and to share a common life, meeting to break bread and to pray. This is what we try to achieve in our meetings - learning from the Bible by reading and discussing it. Doing this can be deeply meaningful. Some of the group take turns in leading the discussion.

We normally meet in someone's house – various people offer to host the meeting. We continue our time of fellowship over a cup of tea or coffee after the discussion. The meetings are normally once a month, starting at 7.30pm and finishing about 10.00pm.

The first of our meetings this session's on Wednesday 21st  September  This year we are following the LifeBuilders Bible study book "Christian Beliefs" by Stephen Eyre.  Over the coming months we will be looking at Revelation – how God makes Himself known; God – what is He like? What can we know about Him; Human Nature – what are we like? How can we relate to God? What happens when we sin; Salvation – what God has done to rescue us from sin; The Church – Jesus calls us to follow Him together. What does he require of us; The last things – Jesus is coming back. How can we live in hopeful expectation?

If you would like further information please speak to Stuart Duffus in church or leave a message, giving your name, phone number & e-mail address, at the church office.
