Why not join us and give it a try?

We are now following a new theme – some of Jesus' Parables. Jesus used parables to invite His hearers to see a new way; to bring about transformation in perception and to invite people to an alternative way of life – a life centred in God. The parables have a power to confront us again and again. However, they can only be interpreted properly by understanding their significance in their overall historical context and within the context of Jesus' teaching and ministry and within the gospels in which they are found.

In a sense they are like jokes – they are designed to catch people off guard and to obtain an immediate response. They capture the listener and make him a participant, overturning his world view and leading him to call into question his most basic values. If a parable has to be explained, it loses much of its force, just as a joke does when someone doesn't get it, and needs an explanation.

10th August – The Parable of the Wheat and the weeds – led by William Watt.

14th September – The Parable of the Vineyard Workers – led by Stuart & Lorna Duffus and Joyce Matthews.

12th October – Jean Jamieson comes Face to Face with Ewan Kelly.

9th November – The Parable of The Good Samaritan – led by Morag Donaldson.

No service on 14th December - come to the Leith Churches Forum joint Christmas Event for Christian Aid at North Leith Church at 7.30pm.
